PERENNIALS

What are Perennials?

Perennials are classified as plants that live for more than two years.

Although many perennials will not remain in bloom the entire time, they will bloom again year after year and continue growing until they reach maturity, which varies by the plant, but averages three to five years. The most common example of a "perennial" plant, by definition, is a tree.

Most perennials have a much shorter "bloom span" than annuals—just one to three weeks each year.

Technically, perennials do not have to be replanted, however, some gardeners choose to replace certain perennials every few years if they begin showing signs of decline.

Believe it or not, but "hardier" perennials often return year after year for 20 years or more! Be sure to ask a member of our garden centre staff which perennial is right for you.
